    Matt’s Morsel – August 2018

    August 6, 2018

I sit and write this article the night after our Summer Zone closing celebration. I am amazed by all of you committed, dedicated, and hard working youth ministry servants. We had an awesome week of ministry as we averaged around 150 youth per night with around 70 adults helping out throughout the week. I love Summer Zone, and I love ministry, but I am ready to relax a little after the past several weeks of intense preparation and ministry. The end of May, June, and July are one of the busiest times on the calendar for many of us, and now we are nearing one of our slowest times of ministry work at the church in the month of August. I honestly look forward to August, especially after Summer Zone is over. It gives me a chance to rest physically, mentally, and spiritually. I feel like I have been on the run with the busyness of life lately, and so I am looking forward to slowing down and simply resting. In Matthew 11:28-30 Jesus says, “Come to me, all of you who are tired and have heavy loads, and I will give you rest. Accept my teachings and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in spirit, and you will find rest for your lives. The burden that I ask you to accept is easy; the load I give you to carry is light.” What does it mean to me to rest in the Lord? It means getting more sleep at night, spending more time in prayer, meditation, and reading or listening to the Bible. It means having more time to relax and enjoy God’s beauty all around me by fishing, swimming, golfing, and being in nature. I will still be planning and preparing for the upcoming school year ministry, as school will be starting up later this month. As I rest I want to continue to improve, and I will improve because I am choosing to rest in the Lord.

    Let’s rest together in Him,

    Youth Man Matt
